This is the time when you need to introduce new foods to your baby. Your baby is surely getting bored by the same taste of the milk. She will like to taste different. But this variety of different foods can cause digestion issues and tummy troubles in this stage. So you need to follow the 3 days waiting for rules i.e. introduce new foods at an interval of 3 days. It will help you to understand your baby’s food preferences and allergic issues. Make a fine paste of the food and feed her by a spoon. Apple Sweet Potato Puree
Apple and sweet potatoes can make an amazing combination together. Sweet potato is rich in beta-carotene and vitamin A whereas apple has vitamin C and fibres in it. Once you introduce apple and sweet potato puree separately to your baby and adjust her tummy accordingly, you can mix them. This could be a wholesome meal for her small tummy.
- 1 small sweet potato
- 1 medium-sized apple
- Peel the skin of the apple and the sweet potato and cut them into small cubes.
- Steam them together for 10 minutes.
- Once it is steamed then you need to blend it with some water into a smooth paste.
Plums Banana Puree
Plums are very helpful for babies who suffer constipation. The banana will make the paste smoother, sweeter, creamier, and easily swallowable for your baby. Plums are less allergic so you can add this as your baby food for 6-8 months. Take ripe plums that have a sweet smell at the stem. Avoid fruits that have bruises and blemishes.
This sweet dish is extremely healthy for your baby. You can give it to your baby from the 7th month. This does not require additional sweetener as the carrot has its natural mild sweetness.
- 1 medium-sized carrot
- Raisins 1 tbsp.
- Powdered jaggery 1 tbsp.
- 4 dates
- A pinch of cardamom powder
- Butter 1 tsp.
- ¼ cup boiled cow milk/ breast milk/ formula milk
- Water as required
- Chop the carrot and steam it
- Blend it with soaked raisins and dates
- Add water to make a fine paste
- Now add jaggery and cardamom powder
- Add milk and stir it for 2 minutes
- Serve it warm
Broken Wheat Porridge
It is rich in carbohydrates, calcium, and iron. This wholesome meal will keep them full for a long time. Use palm sugar or jaggery or dates to sweeten the dish. This is a bit time consuming than other porridges. You can make it salty or sweet, whatever your baby prefers to taste. Take 2tbsp of broken wheat with dates, peeled almonds, and water in a pressure cooker. Blend it with some filtered jaggery water. Transfer it to a saucepan, then add some milk and stir it until it thickens. Rest it for some time. Then serve this baby food for 6-8 months and more.
Sprouted Finger Millet powder
You can make various nutritious dishes with them. Millet can be used to cook porridges, pancakes, cookies, milkshakes, cakes, muffins, and much more. You can introduce this item after the 6th month of your baby. Cook the millet for at least 10 minutes unless it may cause loose motion in babies. Buy whole millet and make it powder at home or buy millet flour from shops. The soaking and sprouting method of millet helps the absorption of iron and calcium as the level of vitamin D & C increases during the method. Also, sprouted millets are easily digestible & highly nutritious.
Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants, fibres, vitamin A and C. This is one of the easiest recipes that you can make only with two ingredients; blueberries and yoghurt. You can give it to your baby from 8 months as it is not common allergens. At first, you can boil the berries and make a paste for your baby. Once she is used to it then you can chop it into mini pieces and serve it as finger food.
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup yoghurt
- 1tsp honey
- Wash the berries and remove their stems
- Put the berries, honey, and yoghurt in a blender and blend it till smooth.
